Gjovalin Gjadri was an outstanding construction engineer who designed and built the most famous bridges in Albania. The engineer's grandson, Ervin Gjadri, was on the show "Shqip" today, where he talked about his grandfather's most outstanding works.
Ura e Mati is one of the oldest and most beautiful bridges in Albania, and engineer Gjadri was the implementer of the construction of this bridge, which was designed by one of the most important studios of the time.
But engineer Gjadri had the peak of his scientific achievement with the design and construction of the Gomsike Bridge. Ervin Gjadri told how the engineer built the Gomsiqes Bridge, which was burned by the Nazi occupiers, to be rebuilt after the liberation of Albania.
"On the Mati bridge, my grandfather was its enforcer. While one of the bridges that he had the peak of his scientific achievement was the old Gomsiqe Bridge. There is a very original project, which was done in few countries in the world, and my grandfather managed to do it in Albania.
Grandfather presented the original project of the Gomsike Bridge at the International Congress in Berlin in 1936. That project was highly praised by the participants in that congress.
Then, during the retreat from Albania, the German troops destroyed this bridge. The misfortune of bridges is that in times of war they are strategic objects. This bridge is a very special and key moment of my grandfather's career, as far as scientific creativity is concerned", said the engineer's grandson Gjovalin Gjadri.
