On Sunday, the Tirana Marathon takes place, the biggest sports event in the capital with runners from several countries around the world. To ease traffic, the Municipality appeals to drivers not to use the marathon route and to be careful where they park their vehicles.

In this 6th edition, a series of activities have been organized for all categories and ages and 2500 competitors are expected to participate. Head of Road Traffic in the Municipal Police, Gentian Vocaj, as he was invited to Report TV, where he gave detailed information about every road that is blocked.

"The marathon starts with the 'Skënderbej' square, will continue on the 'Zogu i Parë' boulevard and then on the 'New Boulevard' of Tirana. Then they will return to the "Skënderbej" square and take a right to the "Durres" street to then return to the "Kavaja" street, to the "Myslym Shyri" street, to the "Gjergj Fishta" boulevard, to the "Gjergj Fishta" boulevard Bajram Curri', pass to the Court's bridge, return to 'Ibrahim Rugova' street, pass through the area of ​​'former Block' and go in the direction of 'former Garda' and make a full circle to 'lake park'.

Then they return to the 'Mother Teresa' square, cross the street 'Gjergj Filipi' to the pizzeria Erës, cross the street 'Papa Jjon Pali' near the television, take a turn. There are 2 marathon parts there. The 10 km marathon continues on 'Papa Gjon Pali' street and exits on 'Bajram Curri' boulevard and on 'e Elbasani' street, where it continues on 'George Bush', 'Abdi Toptani' streets and again near the town hall in 'Skënderbej' square. The marathon has 4 categories, full 42 km, half marathon 21 km, 10 km and the category for paraplegics and has more of a promotional character than sports", said Vocaj.

In order to make the marathon run smoothly, Vocaj did not spare the advice for vehicle users.

"The road closures start at 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The appeal to citizens is not to use vehicles tomorrow. If they must use them, find alternative routes so as not to stop the marathon route. There will be more than 500 effectives on the ground for the smooth running of the marathon" , said Vocaj.

The festive atmosphere started in the early hours of Saturday as the capital hosted a "Fun Run" for school students and the winners of the first three places received symbolic rewards.
