Changes to the Highway Code: 70 hours of training for new professional drivers,

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has approved new guidelines, which fundamentally change the way professional drivers (categories C and D) will qualify and renew their certificates. This guideline aims to align with European standards and increase road safety through advanced technology.

New lesson structure

The instruction precisely defines the duration of the courses for initial and periodic qualification. For the first-time qualification for theory, 60 hours will be held in no less than 15 days. For practical courses, 10 hours will be held in no less than 5 days.

The theory-related refresher training will take place over 35 hours in no less than 7 days.

“Code 95” and digitalization

An innovation is the marking of “Code 95” directly on the driving license or CAP. This code certifies that the driver has met the professional requirements of the European Union for the transport of goods and passengers.

Focus on technology

The new curriculum includes modern topics that were not previously covered, such as Smart Tachograph V2. This is related to knowledge about the new generation of smart tachographs.

Regarding ADAS systems, drivers will learn about driving assistance systems (automatic braking, lane keeping, collision warning).

While ecological driving has a special focus on saving fuel and reducing emissions into the environment.

Control over driving schools

The DPSHTRR (General Directorate of Road Transport Services) receives stronger monitoring powers. Driving schools must make an approval decision to offer CAP courses, and periodic annual checks will be carried out on the didactic base, vehicles and personnel.

If the criteria are not met, driving schools are immediately deregistered from the system.

Health and professional conduct

Unlike the old training, the new program devotes 8 hours to health and emergencies, including stress management and psychological factors; the effects of alcohol and balanced nutrition; and the prevention of crime and illegal trafficking during transport.

Renewal of the CAP is now fully conditional on completion of 35 hours of periodic training. If you hold two types of CAP (for cargo and passengers), the renewal can be carried out simultaneously.
