Easter message: We cannot allow anything and no one to rob us of hope!
Monsignor Angelo Massafra

Catholic believers celebrate Easter at midnight. This holiday marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ after the crucifixion. Resurrection that symbolizes faith in God and hope for all believers. On its eve, the Archbishop of Shkodra, Angelo Massafra, gave an encouraging message to all believers.

Easter message 2023 by Monsignor Angelo Massafra

"Truly the Lord arose and appeared to Simon!" (Luke 24:34).

These are the words that the disciples gathered in the upper room on Easter evening said to the two disciples of Emmaus. This is the message of Easter, which for centuries has been repeated every year in the Church and since then it has spread throughout the world. This is the message that every student must give constantly, first of all with his life and then with his words.

But what does it mean that God is truly risen?

The resurrection of Jesus is in itself a demonstration of His divinity and, at the same time, a guarantee that His words and teachings are true: He is the long-awaited Messiah, the One whom the Father has sent and who, with the Spirit Saint and power, he came to this world "doing good and healing everyone" (Vap 10,38).

To believe that Jesus has risen means to welcome him as the only Savior, that is, as the One who restored the dignity lost to fallen humanity due to original sin, rebuilding in it the likeness of the Creator. Therefore, by accepting Him as the Risen One, we acknowledge that we need salvation and believe that He alone can bring it about.

In other words, the Christian proclamation of the Resurrection of Christ is a proclamation of hope before the limit of sin: He crucified the debt of our condemnation! It is the announcement of new opportunities: like flowers that bloom again even after the heaviest frosts! It is the announcement of a new life, which has forgotten the bad and is completely focused on the good. It is the expression of a new energy, which comes from being in communion with Him to receive from Him stimulus, support and strength for facing the challenges of life.

All this is Easter! The heart of the Christians' religion, without which it is not possible to call themselves "Christians". Starting from this, I want to address a message of hope to all those who will reach these words of mine.

Life's difficulties do not have the last word, nor can we allow ourselves to give in to this diabolical temptation: if we have faith in the Risen Christ, we also have the possibilities to face everything with courage, commitment and generosity. There can be no situations that prevent us from being young people, able to dare, to dream high as Pope Francis reminded us nine years ago in Tirana; and - as Pope Francis has insisted again - in the religion of the Risen Christ, we cannot allow anything and no one to rob us of hope!

If we are true believers in Christ, the time has come, and it is at this moment, to commit ourselves seriously to building good: it does not matter what obstacles come before us; it does not matter how many people or situations will line up against us: this is the moment to act with all the hope and energies we are capable of, but above all with the energies that come to us from faith in Christ the Lord.

I think of families and of every person marked by death, by pain, by illness, by suffering of any kind, by economic difficulties, by injustices, by revenge. Brothers, sisters, courage! "Truly the Lord arose and appeared to Simon!". And today the Resurrected Christ tells us: "Heart, men! I am! Don't be afraid!" (Mk 6,50).

He is present in the background of all human suffering and, as in watermark, he shows us, as once St. Thomas, the wounds in His hands, feet and side, to remind us that, in spite of everything, the resurrection is possible for everyone.

Happy Easter, Catholic, Orthodox and Christian brothers and sisters. God walks alongside us.
