Today (March 4) the NATO military base in Kuçovo will be inaugurated with modern infrastructure for the Alliance's warplanes, while a few days ago the 3 armed 'Bayraktar' drones purchased in Turkey were assembled.
The program for the inauguration of the base is busy, while the highest heads of the Albanian state, as well as representatives of the NATO alliance, will participate in the welcoming ceremony. During the ceremony there will also be an aerial spectacle of aircraft flying.
The reconstruction of the Kuçova air base began in January 2022. The former communist-era base built with volunteer labor in 1952, seven decades later will serve the operations of the Atlantic Alliance.
The decision of the North Atlantic Alliance to build the first air base in Albania was announced in the summer of 2018.
For this base, NATO has invested approximately 50 million euros and more than 5 million euros have been invested by the Albanian government.
The base will be able to maintain six fighter jets on a periodic basis.
