Former prime minister Pandeli Majko and former KLA commander Fatmir Limaj today recalled some interesting moments from one of the most important events in the process for Kosovo's independence, the bombing of Serbia.
Majko said that the most important event was the signing of the Rambouje agreement, which then led to the decision to bomb Serbia. In the show "Zone Zero" on Top Neës, Majko said that at that time there was a risk that two NATO countries would oppose the decision on the bombing.
"I had a phone call with the General Secretary, Solana, and I returned to the Council of Ministers where I informed him that the bombing began. Rambuje was the most important event, its signing, by Hashim Thaçi, the signing automatically turned Kosovo into not just a delegation. There began the understanding and progress in international relations as a state. Punishment of Serbia due to non-signing, automatically, Pristina returned to the official Pristina. Immediately after that, the Thaçi government was formed", said Majko.
While Limaj said that at that time, his task was to create a unity among the KLA commanders in the field to be recognized in the signing of the agreement, from the delegation that was in Rambuje.
"Together with Rexhep Selim, we were assigned to communicate with the Rambuje delegation. We have tried to constantly inform the leaders of what is happening. In everything that happened on the ground, I informed our delegation in Rambuje. We continued the field meetings together and then called everyone and the general staff, we kept communication with the zone commanders. Communication and unity on the ground has been very important. We did not need to command the delegation, it had our complete trust. When the planes flew at 8 o'clock, at 10-10:30 a plane crashed, from 800 meters away from our place of residence, we got closer and saw that the plane had the flag of Serbia behind it. After some 10 minutes we found the flying chair and the soldiers came out looking for the pilot. The pilot is thought to have left his base due to GPS," said Limaj.
Former Prime Minister Majko, at that time, also remembered a somewhat comical moment:
"During Rambuje, we follow the Serbian delegation, not the one from Kosovo. When we were told that the Serbian delegation was drinking wine in the cellars of the Rambuje castle, this was good news for us, not for them."
