Not only women, but also men, who are insured and have the right to benefit from maternity leave. But this culture is still very little developed in Albania."
According to sociologists, this is related to several factors such as the non-interruption of work by men who are still seen as the backbone of the family or even the discrimination they may feel in the social circle.
According to data provided by TV Klan, for the year 2022 only 6.4% of men received maternity leave from over 13,000 women who gave birth to a baby and were insured.
While a year ago this number was lower for men, only 4%. But the number of insured women who have given birth to a baby remains higher.
In 2015, the Social Security law also included men in maternity leave. According to this law, only when the child is 63 days old can the father receive maternity leave.
This at the moment when the mandatory medical report for the mother has been completed. According to the Social Security Law, the first 6 months of maternity leave are paid at 80% of the salary, while the other 6 months at 50% of the salary.
