Altin Dumani is leaving as Chief Prosecutor of SPAK. The High Prosecutorial Council will meet today at 09:00 to select his successor. The meeting for the new head of SPAK will be open to the media and will be attended by representatives from the Prosecutor General, the Ministry of Justice, the Eu4Justice Project and the OPDAT Program.
There are 4 candidates who have applied to be selected as leaders of SPAK: Elvin Gogaj, Adnand Xholi, Doloreza Musabelliu and Klodian Braho. For the first time, a woman is running for the leadership of SPAK. The 4 candidates will present their platforms for the leadership of SPAK to the members of the KLP and then a vote will be held on the name that will lead SPAK.
A day before the SPAK meeting, the US praised the work of Altin Dumani after a meeting with the US State Department official, Deputy Director for West Central European Affairs, Lyn Debevoise. The US praised Dumani's work in the fight against crime and corruption, emphasizing that he set the standard for cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, the EU delegation in Tirana and the British embassy called for the competition to be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, while their message was to select an independent, professional and committed candidate to the best EU standards.
Altin Dumani was elected head of SPAK on December 18, 2022 and is the second prosecutor to head SPAK since the establishment of the Special Structure, after Arben Kraja. The chief prosecutor's mandate is 3 years and without the right to re-election.
The selection of the head of SPAK is based on experience in sensitive issues of corruption and organized crime; leadership skills, vision or credible plan for organizing the Prosecution Office, the public image of his career, etc.
Voting for the head of the Special Prosecution Office becomes open and nominal, and the new head is elected by the candidate who receives the most votes in the Council, so it is enough for him to receive one more vote than the other candidates.
In the event that two or more candidates receive an equal number of votes, the Council, with the participation of all members present, conducts a second vote between the candidates with an equal number of votes.
