But who is Gëzim Çela?

Çela is known as the "boss of drug trafficking" who came from Turkey, through Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania, towards Kosovo and Western countries.

In 2015, Çela was accused of international cocaine trafficking.

A quantity of 18 kg of cocaine was found in his villa in Fushë Kuqe.

In June 2014, the Albanian and Kosovar police destroyed a structured criminal group that trafficked hard drugs from Turkey to Western Europe, including through Albanian territory.

Gëzim Çela is accused of the criminal offenses of "Trafficking in narcotic substances", committed in collaboration and "Production and possession of weapons without permission", as well as exploitation of prostitution. He was previously subject to the OFL as he was able to escape justice.

Today's mega-operation is the continuation of the one a few months ago at sea, where a ton of cannabis was caught in a sailing ship that was trying to be trafficked.

The arrest warrants come as part of the police operation codenamed "Flame at Sea", which was a collaboration with the US DEA and the Guardia di Financa. The group was hit while the drug exchange was taking place.

The traffickers, when they found the police forces, set the ship on fire in the middle of the sea. The police arrested 4 Albanians and 2 Ukrainians in the operation a few months ago in the middle of the sea.

Çela was released from prison a few years ago with the argument that he was suffering from a serious illness. Then he was arrested for falsifying the medical card and was put under "house arrest". But when the police surrounded Çela's house in Mamurras, he was not there.

Today's mega-operation is the continuation of the one a few months ago at sea, where a ton of cannabis was caught in a sailing ship that was trying to be trafficked.

Meanwhile, the investigations are still continuing for the seizure of the real estate of the persons involved in this drug trafficking.
