His nickname was Francesco Averna. On Facebook he had 4 friends, including three women from Campobello di Mazara (the town where he lived) and a sportswear store from Partanna.

While on Instagram, he followed 447 profiles and had 63 followers. His photo? A small dog with a collar.

As  La Repubblica writes , Matteo Messina Denaro presented himself on social networks as Dr Francesco Averna, "surgeon, graduate of Bocconi University in Milan, single" .

According to the investigation, the mafia boss used Facebook for private messages: he had many women with whom he exchanged jokes, some of whom he had met. In other conversations, he talked about his normal life, between clubs and gyms.

Already in 2013, Messina Denaro was searched on Facebook.

At the time, the mafia boss was allegedly talking to his sister Anna Patrizia, who had chosen the name of a Roman empress, Lucilla.
