Four NATO warships land in the port of Durrës, what is happening?

Four NATO ships have arrived this morning at the Port of Durrës.

The ships had undertaken a search and demining operation in Porto Romano at the request of the Albanian authorities and are now anchored in the Port of Durrës.

The four NATO ships were on a mission in the Mediterranean and in Albanian territorial waters, and since Porto Romano is working with high intensity for the construction of ports and the deepening of quays and entrance channels, the control of these waters was requested for the existence of water mines, mainly World War II.

As is known, during the Second World War, German forces mined the coast of Durrës to prevent the landing of aircraft in a possible operation.

During the works in the ports and in the territorial waters, until the last years, the employees have come across bombs which have endangered their lives.

The command of the flotilla that landed today in Durrës will submit to the Albanian authorities a report on the search as well as the corresponding maps together with the results.

The ships will stay a few days in the port of Durrës so that their crews can rest on land after 2 months of services at sea.

The flotilla of four warships consists of the command ship and 3 escort ships.

In composition, 2 of the ships are with a Turkish crew, 1 with an Italian crew and the other with a Dutch crew. For 2 months, the ships have carried out missions in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea as well as in the territorial waters of the country.
