"If you see them, call 112." This is the appeal of the Udine Carabinieri Command in Italy, who suspect the Albanians Edmond and Eduard Trushi, 38 years old, of the thefts that occurred in recent months with the "hole in the frame" technique.
According to the Italian media, the twins of Albanian origin are authentic specialists: they open a hole in the object, then insert a wire with which they open the door or window and sneak into the house to steal and rob.
With this system, they have committed hundreds of thefts in recent years in Northern Italy. After being convicted and acquitted several times, messing up the Italian courts because of the same DNA, the Udine police issue an appeal for citizens to let them know if they see them, as it is suspected that they have returned to their "habit" old.
Almost identical
The problem is that the two are practically identical (same haircut and same tattoos) and it was very difficult to specifically attribute the theft with DNA analysis alone, since their traces left at the crime scene yielded results of uncertainty.
However, according to a recent study from the University of Iceland, which confirms an earlier analysis from 2008, even homozygous identical twins have some genetic differences.
This was revealed by a University of Iceland study published in 2021 in Nature Genetics, according to which the role of genetic factors in differences between identical twins has been underestimated.
Fines
Thanks also to the similarity of their DNA, they were acquitted three times, "disappeared" for a long time, and immediately became known as the "Lupen Twins" (a nickname for a "gentleman thief", the name of a character in also taken from a French film, unlike the two Albanians who never hesitated to react violently when they were caught the first time).
Despite the most accurate techniques, their fingerprint analysis, although homozygous twins, remain different.
But their movements tracked by cellphones and prints made it possible to arrest them and sentence them in 2020 by the Court of Mantua to 2 years and two months in prison.
Previously, they had received two other sentences in Pordenone: the first with 6 years and 10 months and the second in Apel with 5 years and 5 months. Likewise, Edmond and Eduart Trushi had also received a deportation order from Italy.
INVESTIGATIONS
But now it seems that they have returned and have activated criminal cooperation in the field of house burglaries. Investigators are looking for them as "suspected authors" of several new thefts in northern Italy.
The commander of the investigative unit of the Carabinieri Command of Udine, confirmed for the newspaper " Corriere della Sera " various reports against them and that investigations are underway.
