A 44-year-old Albanian man wanted as the leader of an international drug trafficking organization was recently extradited from Dubai to Italy, on behalf of Italian justice.

The operation to arrest and extradite him was codenamed "Tornado", as he was taken down in handcuffs at Fiumicino Airport in Rome by Interpol Rome agents, who traveled to the United Arab Emirates to hand him over.

He had been wanted since last year, following an arrest warrant issued by the Brescia Prosecutor's Office, as part of a Guardia di Financa operation.

Investigators believe the 44-year-old is one of the main leaders of a criminal organization dedicated to international drug trafficking.

"After reconstructing the fugitive's escape abroad, the Guardia di Finanza (Fuel Police) of the PEF - GICO Unit, GOA section of Brescia, immediately activated the International Police Cooperation Service of the Central Directorate of Criminal Police, with the support of the Security Expert stationed in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)," the Italian police announced.

And after the agreement with the Emirates, he was extradited from Dubai on July 4 and placed in custody in Brescia Prison, awaiting prosecution action.

At the beginning of June, another Albanian, Fatjon Gjonaj, was arrested and extradited from Dubai on behalf of Italy and the Milan Prosecutor's Office, also wanted as part of a large drug trafficking organization in the Lombardy area.
