Charles McGonigal, a former senior counterintelligence officer at the FBI, has been charged with helping a Russian oligarch in violation of US sanctions. Also, other charges have been brought against him in the framework of another investigative process, because he received money from a former officer of the Albanian secret service.
Charles McGonigal worked for the FBI's counterintelligence division until he left the FBI in September 2018 and covered Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, among others.
He is accused of having received 225,000 dollars from a former employee of the secret services of Albania identified as Agron Neza and having held a series of meetings with businessmen and politicians in Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia, but without reporting them according to the rules.
Meanwhile, it is revealed that the former FBI official also had a business activity in Albania. He is the administrator of a law firm called 'Laë Office and Investigation', which has been suspended since the end of 2019. Charles McGonigal has 25% of the shares in this business, while the other two shareholders are Shefqet Dizdari and Agron Neza. 'Law Office and Investigation' is a company registered in 2008 by Shefqet Dizdari, a well-known lawyer from Tropoja, who in 2019 sold shares to the former senior FBI official Mc Gonigal, Agron Neza and another citizen foreigners, named Mark Thomas Rossini.

Socialist MP Erjon Braçe also reacted to this issue. The latter has passed the ball to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Braçe says that the businessman Shefqet Dizdari, one of the shareholders of Laë Office and Investigation, is related to Sali Berisha.
"Shefqet Dizdari has only one contract, it was signed by Berisha in 2010, there is nothing else in the oil field. What are they accusing Rama of, I want to know, is there an accusation against him in America? It is another matter if he is accused in America. Nick Muzin was investigated and tried there and was punished there," Braçe said on Report TV.
