The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime will review on Tuesday, March 24, the request of former President Ilir Meta for the relaxation of the security measure.
The judge who will review Meta's request is Paulin Çera. Meta filed another request with the Special Court, where he requested release from prison against a financial guarantee.
Specifically, Meta has requested the replacement of the security measure 'prison arrest' with a milder security measure such as 'house arrest', 'compulsion to appear', 'property guarantee' or 'ban on leaving the country'.
Meta argued that since the file has already been sent for trial, there is no risk of him tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.
The former president has been in prison since October 2024 and faces charges of corruption related to the CEZ-DIA affair, LSI lobbying contracts in the US, as well as money laundering and asset concealment.
