Kreshnik Mujeci, accused of murder in 2016, remains a victim of today's assassination attempt
The 39-year-old, who was the victim of an assassination attempt today inside his car, where he was traveling with his wife in Balldren, Lezha, is a name known to the police. Kreshnik Mujeci, together with his brothers, Lin and Jozef Mujeci, are accused of killing Gegë Mëhilli (also known as Genc Mhillaj or Gent Pjetri) on October 6, 2016.
The incident took place on the Shkodër-Velipoja national road, near the place known as Mali i Jushit. One of the brothers, Jozefi, was arrested the day after the criminal incident, when he was 21 years old.
In October 2017, Kreshnik Mujeci and his brother, Jozef Mujeci, were arrested as suspects for the "premeditated murder" of citizen Genc Mhillaj, who died after being taken to the Shkodra Regional Hospital, an event that occurred on October 6, 2016. After being sent to trial for the criminal offenses of "premeditated murder" and "unlicensed possession of a weapon", in November 2018, they were declared innocent by the Shkodra Court.
The same decision ordered their immediate release. The prosecution appealed the decision, which was dismissed by the Court of Appeal a year later. In October 2024, the Supreme Court returned the case for retrial to the Court of Appeal.
According to the police, the incident occurred after a fight the day before. Kreshnik Mujeci, together with his brothers, had blocked the path of the truck in which Mhillaj was transporting flour and shot him, leaving him dead.
