The investigations against the former head of the Road Authority, Evis Berberi , have led the Special Prosecution Office towards the Llogora Tunnel.
SPAK is reviewing a contract won by the company of his former business partner, Valter Begaj , for the supervision of works on one of the most important works on the south coast.
Both Berberi and Begaj were arrested in March last year, and are under investigation on suspicion of corruption and money laundering.
What connects the two of them to the Llogora Tunnel is the company " Net Group " owned by Begaj, where Berberi himself had previously been employed.
According to the Special Prosecution Office, this company was used to divert money to another company, " Daam ", on paper owned by Begaj, but which, according to investigators, was indirectly owned by Berber.
The company " Net Group " won the competition for supervision with a bid of 194 million lek, or about 2 million euros, as a merger of operators with another company "Hill International NV".
The contract with the Ministry of Infrastructure was signed on May 16, 2022. At that time, Berberi was the Director of the Road Authority, an institution subordinate to this ministry.
