A case of success was achieved in a patient diagnosed before pregnancy with thrombocytopenia, idiopathic purpura, thanks to the cooperation of obstetrician-gynecologists, resuscitation doctors, hematologists and pediatricians at SUOGJ "Queen Geraldine".
The news was announced by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, in a post on social networks.
"Thanks to this intervention, the patient and her baby enjoy full health. This is the first documented case in Albania that such a pregnancy lasts until the 9th month, saving the life of the mother and her little one", emphasized Koçiu.
Minister Koçiu expressed her gratitude to the team of doctors: Prof. dr. Eliona Demaliaj, dr. Marinela Lica, dr. Zef Delia, dr. Adela Perolli and dr. Spiro Dama.
In the video published by Minister Koçiu, prof. dr. Eliona Demaliaj said that "a mother's sacrifices are endless. Before the pregnancy, the mother suffered from a severe pregnancy pathology. The mother, with the great love to have a child, risked her life and undertook the continuation of the pregnancy, but she had faith in the doctors and the public health system and by cooperating with us she managed to have a successful pregnancy and the child to enjoy full health".
Dr. Zef Delia said that "Irma Sulaj, 35 years old, came from Berat to Tirana for a more qualified treatment, as she suffers from a rare blood disease. The baby and the new mother, Irma Sulaj, thanked the doctors for their dedication".
"Thanks to the dedication of prof. dr. Eliona Demaliaj for 9 consecutive months I managed to have my son Amar in my arms today", said Sulaj adding that "doctors are heroes".
