Eni Francis was only 6 years old when she arrived in Albania with her family. Today she is a mother, a grandmother and an elderly woman who survived the Nazi Holocaust during World War II.

The meeting with me, even though it was in wartime, was special because the family that saved them from the Nazis is my family.

Hamdi and Zyrha Kasapi sheltered the Francis family, Eni's father, her mother, brother and grandmother in their house on "Riza Cerova" street in Tirana.

However, throughout the war, life was difficult. She remembers the moments of horror when her family was hiding in Tirana, and while among the sad memories she also has the sugar pare, the dessert that quenched their hunger, fixed in her memory.

Journalist-Play in the neighborhood and what did you say to me before, what did you eat, sweetie?

Eni Francis – Sugar was made at home, it was very sweet. It was very good for us, we were hungry people. Every night we were used to eating only peas, no bread, no meat.
During their stay in Albania, they also faced house-to-house searches by the Nazis. Today Eni experiences the war again.

The Francis family is one of the hundreds of ordinary Israeli families who took refuge in Albania during the Second World War. Fate was with them, but not with hundreds of other families in Israel and the Gaza Strip who have been wiped out as a result of the war.
