'I touched the page'/ Sexual harassment of the Tax employee, DP: Moral

The Democratic Party has reacted to the case of harassment and sexual harassment of an employee in the General Directorate of Taxes.

DP says that the institutions have not reacted to this event, while they call this an indicator of moral and spiritual corruption "of this administration, which no scandal can stop and no code contains".

Statement by the member of the social affairs department, Orinda Malltezi:

Financial corruption is not enough for Edi Rama's administration without adding erotic corruption as well. An employee of the General Directorate of Taxes was sexually harassed in the workplace, according to the video evidence transmitted by the show "Stop".

The Democratic Party firstly condemns the unworthy act against a lady, and secondly the reaction, or rather the lack of reaction, institutional to this act, calling both indicators of the moral and spiritual corruption of this administration, which no scandal can stop and no code does not contain it.

According to the video, the sexual harassment had been going on for a long time, and was expressed physically, verbally and non-verbally. In the absence of clear policies on sexual harassment in the workplace, the employee had tried to solve the situation silently, and after finding that there was no change, she complained at the administrative level and then at the criminal level. The situation of harassment has continued in the conditions of the appalling non-reaction of the institutions, which creates a precedent that puts all women and girls in public administration at risk.

All notified institutions did not react after receiving the complaint. The General Directorate of Taxes, the Ministry of Finance and the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana have not taken any steps to verify the situation and address it. The lady was left alone and a victim of sexual harassment for 3 years, with all the psychological burden this brings.

The institutions that should have reacted immediately as soon as they were informed are: the General Directorate of Taxes, whose head has the main responsibility for allowing this situation, the Ministry of Finance as a superior institution, the Department of Public Administration, which has the responsibility of codification of policies against sexual harassment in the workplace and monitoring their implementation.

We ask the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana to start the investigation immediately. We call on all women and girls, in public administration and everywhere, to denounce any type of sexual harassment in the workplace, and we urgently ask the Department of Public Administration to request the implementation and respect of the Convention on sexual harassment that has approved by the Assembly.
