The Katjel Chrome Mine, where 58-year-old Sajmir Bego accidentally lost his life, is managed by Gëzim Balla. The latter expressed that he feels extremely sad and regretful about the tragedy that occurred.
The mine, according to Balla, had not been operational for several days for the extraction of the mineral.
"During the last few days, work has been done in the gallery to create optimal working conditions. Today, around noon, everything was ready to resume the normal work process. The company's technical director, Hysni Kllogjri, inspected the safety conditions in the mine gallery and, before starting work, trained the miners as usual to start work, reminding them of the implementation of all safety standards while working in the gallery. The safety of the miners' lives is and will be one of our most important principles in this venture.
"The shift manager, Gëzim Kllogjri, informed me at noon about the tragic accident where one of the miners lost his life. This event has shocked us and I feel very hurt. I was previously informed that there was a collapse from the ceiling of the gallery and the 58-year-old miner was fatally injured after being hit in the head by a stone," Balla told News24.
