Businessman Dritan Gremi and the company "Gremi Wellness" have been named defendants in the context of the botox smuggling case, an investigation related to the "Botulinum Toxin" operation, conducted by Albanian authorities in October 2024.
According to the data made public, Gremi and the company he manages are suspected of having introduced into Albania "Botox" products with the active principle Botulinum toxin, which did not have authorization for marketing in the country.
The case is currently in the preliminary hearing phase at the Tirana Court, while the next hearing is scheduled for September 22, 2026.
As part of the investigation, uncertified medical equipment, found during inspections at the premises of "Gremi Clinic", was also examined.
The investigation began after the "Botulinum Toxin" operation, during which authorities conducted inspections in about 30 aesthetic clinics and hair salons in Tirana, under suspicion that unregistered and unauthorized Botox for sale in Albania was being used in these facilities.
During the checks, products containing botulinum toxin were seized, while investigators also focused on the method of supply and distribution of the products to aesthetic clinics.
In the first stages of the operation, three people were declared wanted, including doctor Skerdi Faria, administrator of the "Keit" clinic, suspected at the time of involvement in activity related to the use of unregistered Botox.
After the investigation, according to publicly available data, the case against Farias has been dismissed, as he no longer faces the charges in this file.
After nearly two years since the 2024 operation, the proceedings have continued with the arrest of the defendants Dritan Gremi and "Gremi Wellness", while for Skerdi Faria the proceedings have been closed with the dismissal of the case.
The full reaction of Dritan Gremi and "Gremi Wellness":
Two words about the news circulating in the media today.
This whole story started because I refused to submit to pressure from a Special Prosecutor's Office of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and a prosecutor who supported him, in the context of an investigation into the trade of Botox in Tirana.
After I publicly denounced the way I felt I and my business had been treated, what followed convinced me that I was also facing the consequences of the fact that I had chosen not to remain silent.
Biznesi im nuk tregtonte botoks. As atëherë, as sot.
ZERO. As edhe një gram.
And I say this for another reason: when you yourself publicly claimed that injustice had been done to you, even without knowing you personally, you had my solidarity.
Therefore, I believe that the figure of the journalist must be protected, but it is protected above all with professionalism, verification, and respect for the presumption of innocence.
After my clarification, all media outlets that had published the news removed it. I publicly thank their leaders for their professionalism and responsibility.
And two words about justice.
I completely agree that prosecutors, judges, and OPGJs should have high and dignified salaries. The responsibility they bear is extraordinary, and honest professionals should be well paid and have the support of society.
But the salary, authority, and power granted by law must also be accompanied by high responsibility for the way the duty is performed.
If the competent institutions prove that someone has abused their office, they should not harm the image of hundreds of prosecutors, judges, and justice workers who do their jobs honestly with their behavior.
I have the utmost respect for justice workers who apply the law with integrity. But respect for justice does not mean remaining silent when you think you have been treated unfairly.
I was not silent then and I have no intention of remaining silent today.
