The government's draft for territorial reorganization has encountered initial opposition from several municipalities, as local councils have begun to express their positions on the merger of local units.

The Municipal Council of Këlcyra has voted against the proposal to merge this municipality and merge with the Municipality of Përmet. In the extraordinary meeting, all 15 members voted unanimously against the government's draft.

The decision came after reactions and protests from residents of the area, who opposed the loss of municipality status and demanded that Këlcyra continue to function as a separate unit.

Municipal councilors, both from the majority and the opposition, also called on the Përmet Municipal Council not to approve the proposal for the merger of the two municipalities.

Meanwhile, discussions have also begun in Klos about the new territorial division, where the government draft foresees the merger of the Klos Municipality and its unification with the Mat Municipality.

The Mayor of Klos Municipality, Valbona Kola, stated that before any decision-making, public hearings will be held with residents in all units of the area.

She said that her stance will be in line with the will of the citizens. "If the citizens are in favor, I will be in favor. If the citizens are against, I will be against too," Kola said.

The territorial reorganization process is expected to be accompanied by debates in other municipalities as well, while proposals for new mergers have begun to face opposition from local communities and local representatives.
