Arrests in Saranda/ It is suspected that the police dome was corrupted by crime
The Chief of the Saranda Police Station, Gëzim Bashllari and Isuf Jaçaj (murdered)

New details have emerged from the operation against illegal construction in Saranda, which led to the dissolution of the Police. The Chief of the Saranda Police Station, Gëzim Bashllari, and 3 inspectors, Andi Duro, Ajdin Ismailaj and Robert Çullaj, were briefly detained after being suspected of abusing their position by favoring and tolerating illegal construction in the most coveted coastal areas of the south, Saranda and Ksamil.

The suspicions are that the officers had created schemes with the aim of illegal profit, and are also suspected of having favored unauthorized constructions that were linked to criminal groups in the territory of Saranda.

This entire action began after a complaint was received by the State Police regarding an unauthorized construction on a beach area in neighborhood number 1 in Saranda, which led to the arrest of 8 workers and the search for the owner, Arjola Dhrami Bajo. The State Police notified the services of the IKMT, IMT and the Municipal Police about this construction, which carried out the demolition of the constructions.

The illegal construction, as seen in the video below, is suspected to be linked to a series of criminal incidents that have rocked the city in recent months. According to police sources, the property where the works were being carried out turned out to have been in the name of Isuf Jaçaj, who was killed after a TNT explosion in his vehicle in October 2025. Investigators suspect that a criminal group based in Kamëz may be behind the assassination, which is also being verified for involvement in other criminal episodes in Saranda.

A beach bar was being built on the property that was allegedly taken by force by this group, intended to be operational during the tourist season. Bribes were allegedly paid to local police officials to allow the construction.

It was Police Chief Skënder Hita who notified the Police Supervision Agency and, in cooperation with the Saranda Prosecutor's Office, actions continued to hold the police officers, who had not fulfilled their duty to prevent this construction, accountable.

AMP detained the head of the Police Station and 3 inspectors, who are accused of "Abuse of duty", "Committing arbitrary actions" and "Failing to take measures to end the illegal situation", these acts committed in collaboration, not only in this case, but also in others. After the action, Hita has suspended the four employees from duty and has initiated procedures for their expulsion from the State Police.

Hita has also immediately suspended from duty the Head of the Section for the Investigation of Major Crimes at the Saranda Police Station, Commissioner Blerim Tafçiu, after he failed to appear for questioning during the investigative actions being carried out by the Police Supervision Agency.
