The Minister of Justice in Great Britain, Alex Chalk, has expressed concern about how English prisons have been filled with foreign nationals.
The annual cost he says for a prisoner is £47,000 a year. He relates the concern to the high number of Albanians in English prisons and the agreement for the transfer of 200 Albanian prisoners who are serving more than 4 years in prison.
Minister Chalk in his interview for "Daily Telegraph" has accepted the start of the transfer of Albanian prisoners from English prisons to Albanian ones.
"The first person transferred through this scheme was a very serious drug trafficker sentenced to 17 years in prison," stated Minister Chalk.
It is about an Albanian convicted by a London court for cocaine trafficking in 2017 with 17 years in prison. For several weeks now, he has been serving his remaining years in a high-security prison in South-Eastern Albania. On behalf of one of the three criminal families in Elbasan, he ran a criminal organization in London involved in cocaine trafficking worth 150 million pounds.
So far, 80 Albanians out of 1,330 serving sentences in English prisons have expressed interest in being transferred to Albania.
