The Treviso prosecutor's office is seeking a trial for Andrea Kovacaj, the 20-year-old Albanian from Ormelle, who ran over Lorenzo Pjetrushi with a car on the night of January 20, 2024.
The latter was on the hood of Kocacaj's moving car. The incident was recorded in a parking lot near the sports fields in Cimadolmo.
Pjetrushi, a 19-year-old of Albanian origin, also died 9 days later, in Treviso hospital after suffering serious injuries.
Deputy prosecutor Barbara Sabattini charged Kovacaj with roadkill. According to her, he allowed Pjetrushi to stand on the hood of his vehicle.
He then drove for about 50 meters at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour. When he stopped, the victim fell to the ground and Kovacaj crushed him.
The San Polo di Piave police say in their investigations that on the evening of the tragedy, several young people had gathered to celebrate the birthday of a cousin of the victim.
They were all traveling in Kovacaj's car, where they planned to later go to a nightclub.
Before they left, Pjetrushi had lit a cigarette and while Kovacaj's car was moving he had climbed onto the hood.
At one point, Pjetrushi slipped off the hood and was hit by the car.
All the young people present at the scene tried to provide first aid to the young man, who was stuck under the car.
The Albanian was taken to hospital in Treviso where he died nine days later as a result of very serious injuries.
"We don't want to know the truth and have justice. We are not interested in the economic aspects of the case," the victim's parents said.
The way the 18-year-old lost his life was one of the dangerous challenges on TikTok, where young people stand on the hood of a moving car, giving the impression of surfing.
