The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime sentenced Gentjan Malindi to 8 years and 8 months in prison. Malindi is accused of trafficking 137 kilograms of cocaine in the Port of Durrës in 2019 and was accused of ordering the narcotic.

Malindi requested summary judgment, which was granted by the court. He was arrested in Vora on October 27 of last year, while he was driving a vehicle.

How the event happened:

We recall that on September 19, 2019, 173 kg of cocaine were found in the "Eniway" ship in the Port of Durrës. While Gentian Malindi was the owner of the ship.

The drug had been shipped from Ecuador and landed in the port of Piraeus in Greece, and then ended up in the port of Durrës. It is about 4 containers with bananas and inside them were 137 kilograms of cocaine. The containers were discovered in Piraeus, where Greek police found the drugs shipped from Ecuador.

In the 4 containers destined for Albania, the police had data that there was cocaine on the bottom of their floor. The Greek police did not intervene, but gave information to the Albanian side. The containers have arrived in Albania, and the Albanian prosecutor's office, together with the police, have removed the drugs and placed packages of rice and GPS (locator tracker).

After three days, the two people, Gentian Maldini and Altin Myslimhaka, went to the Port of Durrës, who were expecting to take drugs, but instead of cocaine, they took rice.

Malindi, a businessman in Durrës, is known for drug trafficking, while in 2013 he was arrested for drug trafficking.
