Xhetan Ndregjoni never stopped trying to bring his granddaughter, Eva, from Syria.

For 12 years, in a variety of ways, he tried and tried many times to bring his sister his daughter, whom her husband, through deception, took away by going to Syria and joining the Islamic State.

There have been many cases where he has been deceived with false promises to get Eva back.

In a telephone interview from Istanbul, Xhetan Ndregjoni told Top Channel the final suffering of this 12-year chapter.

"We have gone through a difficult 48 hours since Eva arrived at the Turkish border with Syria. Turkish security authorities interviewed Eva for several hours, but finally, with the help of Albanian authorities, she arrived home this morning," he said.

"We understood their concern, as we knew the circumstances under which Eva was coming."

Xhetani tells the moment when, after 12 years, he met his granddaughter.

"She threw herself on my neck and just said: uncle, uncle... she started crying. She was scared, as she was surrounded by unknown people, who brought her from a long way from Syria to the border with Turkey.

"I couldn't believe she arrived. The last time I saw her she was 8 years old. She is 20 today. Her voice was shaking when she hugged me. Until that moment I had only heard her voice from the voice messages she sent us. It was all unbelievable, because in the past we had been promised many times that they would bring Eva, but it didn't happen."

"I am grateful to the many people involved in bringing Eva home."

Xhetani says that, after losing her mother, his sister, he wants Eva, just like his children, to continue her life surrounded by love, together with her brother Endrin.

Meanwhile, in a message on social media, he says: "Eva, today she came to the family!

Endless gratitude to everyone who believed in Eva and to everyone who helped Eva be close to her family today! Thank you! Thank you!”.
